I have a scene that has about 50k polygons and uses full raytracing
with all options turned on. Two objects were modeled as glass coffee
cups with tinted liquid. All objects had some level of reflection. I
had multiple crashes, only at Med res, only with raytracing on, only
when it completed segment 3 of 4 and was integrating pixels. This
wouldn't have bothered me so much except that it occurred after 12
hours of rendering on a 4000/040.
I didn't try the scene at high res, but I did reduce and increase the
number of segments to see what happened, and it didn't help. I
isolated the problem down to the glass coffee cup objects. They
appeared to be modeled without error. I used single sided objects, but
copied, flipped polys and set refraction to 1 and shrunk the copy to
get rid of the speckle syndrome. I completely re-modeled the cups and
it rendered first time perfectly.
